In praise of Kiwi café culture

Sharing a cuppa and a chat with a friend in Bungalo café, Birkenhead

Sometimes the best things in life are right in front of our eyes and we don’t see the wood for the trees. Like New Zealand’s great cafés. Like bumping into an old friend and sharing a cuppa and a chinwag. I really needed that today.

In the words of Alanis,

Thank you frailty,
Thank you consequence,
Thank you, thank you silence.

  1. Most sublime cafe moment – driving through Otorohanga and hanging out for a decent flat white. Parking near the old railway station…only to discover (follow your nose) that the old railway station was not a coffee roasting business with cafe. The freshest, most perfect (and fair trade) coffee. 1000% gorgeous. Next time I drive south I’ll go via Otorohanga because of that cafe. Origin is the name – their coffee is sublime.
