What's cooking?

Why shared food tastes better

Learning to roll gnocchi with Paolo and Cristina

Many thanks to Paolo and Cristina of the Italian Culture Meetup Group for hosting another wonderful cookery lesson.

The shared act of creating something with our hands speaks to one of our basic human instincts – perhaps one we feel especially as women. Food is a great conduit for community.

Paolo and Cristina’s group reminds me of another co-creative project I’ve seen recently. My wonderfully artistic sister has inspired this post with her thesis work on embodiment in art – the relationship between our physical selves, the sensory world and other people. A small community worked on a theatrical creation of Hans Christian Andersen’s Snow Queen for the project – you can see the amazing results of the collaboration here.
