Top 5 veggie picnic ideas

For those who can’t quite leave the summer behind, here is some inspiration for dishes to satisfy all at a picnic!

  1. Savory tartlets or quiches
Easy to eat by hand, and tantalisingly pretty. My fave? Self-crusting quiche. Looks impressive but is actually super-easy!  Throw in some strong-flavoured cheese, such as mature cheddar with onion, or feta with spinach.

  2. Crisp salad
Interesting salads are perfect for picnics. They look appealing. They are eaten cold. They work well on a hot day!

  3. Flavoursome pasta salad
Something a little more substantial goes down well after a swim, trek or game of frisbee. Try mixing basil pesto into pasta with cherry tomatoes, olives, chargrilled peppers and feta.

  4. Muffins – sweet and savoury
Muffins just call out ‘summer’ and work great at barbecues and picnics. Try savoury flavours as well as the classic blueberry and choc chip.

  5. Don’t forget the drinks!
In the sunshine, you’ll need plenty of hydration. Bring a choice of interesting options, and excite the kids with different colours and flavours of drinks, like raspberry, lemon and kiwifruit.
