Independent ale from an ex-All Black

The McCashin brewery is one of the older independent breweries in the country. It was created by ex-All Black Terry McCashin and his family in 1980.

I enjoyed this Kiwi Pale Ale in their Stoke Bomber range. It strikes a nice balance between easy-drinking and an interesting flavour profile: sweetness which beer aficionados describe as “fig”, or “biscuity malty” with enough bitterness to offset it, and the whole not heavy at all. Craft beer purists may prefer something more challenging, but this would be a nice entry point for someone looking to move beyond boring commercial beers.

The Stoke Bomber range also includes:

  • Biscuit Lager
  • Bohemian Ale
  • Oatmeal Stout
  • Smoky Ale

PS Can someone explain to me what the definition of a Kiwi Pale Ale is?
